Latest and Greatest

As happens with a move, we have a ton going on!  And, as per normal (or so it seems) we're dealing with not only a move, but a pregnancy as well...  Needless to say, my days are full of paperwork, head spinning, and constantly checking things off my dozens of to-do lists!

And, since we're leaving in exactly a month, here's where we stand so far:

The move:  Our moving company has been booked and they've come for the initial survey of all our stuff.  We've scheduled additional shipments from both Hubs' parents' house and my mama's house!  The military gives us a weight allowance, and we're allowed to have multiple pick-ups from various locations as long as we stay within that poundage and the location is a previous duty station.  Lucky for us, all our parents live in places where we were previously stationed!  My in-laws are giving us their tanning bed.  Don't judge me.  But I love my Vitamin D (no, not while I'm pregnant; don't worry!).  I don't tan year-round, but I do like to have a healthy glow in the spring and summer.  My mama has some pieces at her house that I've inherited from my Nana (who passed away in July).  Additionally, Mama is giving my brothers and me each some money from Nana's estate, which I'll be using for dining room and living room furniture and will likely be delivered to Mama's house!

The car:  We finalized the preparations to ship one of our cars back East last night.  As I mentioned before, we decided that this was just the best way to go for us.  The military will allow a certain amount of reimbursement, which is nice, but the main thing is that we'll all be driving together and that really relieves some of my anxiety about driving cross-country by myself!  The company we're using called us last night to finalize everything, we're all booked, and we'll get the final carrier assignment the first week of December.

The route:  We both had certain things we wanted to see along the way, so we planned our route to accomodate those desires, while keeping the weather at Christmastime and the length of time in the car (remember, we'll have a toddler and a preggo mama!) to a minimum! Given my family history, my old OB in Virginia (who is also my mama's doctor) told me to ensure I get out and walk every three or four hours, so that is the plan...not only for me, but also for Bunkey to run off some energy!  We have our hotels booked, maps printed, and a list of pertinent addresses for dinner places, attractions, and lodging!

The house:  Well, remember how we were having some house drama?  Turns out that after we shelled out $600 on a house/radon inspection we learned that the house might be going to auction.  And might turned into is.  Luckily, the day before we were supposed to shell out even more money on an appraisal our realtor got all this information and we pulled out of the contract.  Apparently the sale of the house was due to a divorce and both the wife and her realtor had no idea that the husband had stopped making payments and the bank was getting involved.  I'm just glad we caught things relatively quickly.  In the meantime, the sellers for my top choice contacted us to see if we were still interested as they hadn't gotten much/any traffic in their home.  We reentered negotiations with them, and things weren't looking good, and we prepared to walk away, especially when they told us they suddenly had a second offer and it was pretty apparent that the other couple was offering more than us.  We didn't want to deal with a bidding war, so we readied ourselves to start all over.  But then, on the day before the anniversary of my dad's death, we got some additional information regarding my nursing school situation and Hubs' follow-on opportunities after this set of orders, and decided that the best plan would be to pay a little more to purchase this house rather than gamble with renting or buying a smaller townhouse that we'd soon outgrow.  On Veteran's Day Weekend, I called my realtor and asked if it was too late to make another offer or if they'd already accepted the other couple's offer.  Come to find out, the other couple was delayed in their negotiations because the husband had had a stroke and was in the hospital!  We agreed to a sales price and closing date and the contract was signed and ratified that night.  What a strange coincidence that all this happened on the anniversary of my dad's death and that the reason behind it was someone else having a stroke, just as my dad had!  I can't help but believe that he was intervening on my behalf!  The home inspection is this afternoon, so barring any big issues, we'll be closing in just over a month, which we're en route back East!

And with that, you've been sufficiently brought up to speed!!
