Murder Mystery

A while ago I mentioned to you that we were following a murder case that involves one of Hubs' professors here at NPS.

As far as background, here goes...  This professor, Dr Jones, is 69 and married a woman who's 29.  They've been married for five years, and from what we can tell in the papers, it was a volatile marriage.  Dr Jones has a pretty colorful police record (making it hard for me to understand why NPS would hire him) to include arrest for murder back in 1993!  OK, so arrest doesn't necessarily mean convicted but still!!  There are other various assault, battery, and DUI charges mentioned in the news that make him a questionable employee in my opinion.  Additionally, he has a history of suicide attempts, both during this marriage and a previous one.

So Dr Jones married this lady five years ago.  She's from the Philippines and quite educated and held a few high-powered jobs over there, before coming to the States and being employed in much less sophisticated places here.  And given that she's 40 years younger than him, I'm not sure why she's want to marry this guy.  I have my theories, but of course I only know what I've read in the papers, so we'll leave it with this:  she was educated and successful overseas and at some point she moved here and got married (or maybe they met there and got married before moving back...who knows?) and she worked here, though not in as prestigious a workplace as before.  According to the papers they were happy for a while, but the marriage soured after a couple of years, exploding when Dr Jones burned all his wife's clothes in a fit of rage when Stanford (his alma mater) lost a football game.  This was apparently the straw that broke the camel's back and she left him.

Fast forward to late August/early September when Hubs receives an email from a classmate saying that Dr Jones has been arrested after some hikers found the remains of his wife's body on the side of the road not too far from here!  This of course comes within a week of their divorce being finalized and amid rumors as to why the wife was here, and in Dr Jones' house when she lives an hour away now.  Some of her friends reported that she told them she had some final papers to sign, but the lawyers say that isn't the case.  Additionally, why would she go to the house to sign anything?  So there's a theory of kidnapping in the works right now.  But several authorities, to include the FBI, searched the home and found tons of evidence that correlates to the dismembered body found on the side of the road last month!

As of right now, arraignment has been scheduled and postponed a few times due to "health issues" of Dr Jones (perhaps another suicide attempt, since he appeared in court with his wrist bandaged) and he's being held without bond in the county jail here.  Arraignment was supposed to be in early October, and then last week, and now it's scheduled for closer to Halloween, so I'll keep you posted on what I learn.  But for now, you can check out the latest news article here.

Oh...and I should mention!  Do you know how they identified the wife's body?  By the lot number on her breast implants!!!!!  How crazy is that?!?!
